Theme: Love and Care
In the passing of my beloved grandmother, I recalled seeking solace in music. I found it in the melodic sounds of Bill Wither’s 'Grandma’s Hand.' its lyrics echoed the special maternal warmth and love uniquely hers. This love, tangible and alive, manifested in the kinetic exchange of shared meals and stories from the past.
The loss felt like a rupture, tearing away a piece of myself, my culture, and my heritage. Amidst the crumbling remnants of tradition, I wanted to focus my photographs on the hands of a grandmother. While she may not share my blood or family ties, her presence offered solace in my grief and served as a poignant reminder of the love I once received and the fading echoes of a cherished culture. Through her, I discovered a lifeline to my childhood, learning to recreate the flavours of my favourite dishes.
My grandmother's love and memory linger in the kitchen, where the aroma of spices mingles with the warmth of shared tales. Each culinary creation becomes a tribute, a way to bridge the gap between the past and present, preserving not only the taste but the essence of a love that transcends time.
