Yasmin Evering-Kerr
Hi there!
I'm an award-winning Toronto-based artist passionate about addressing issues of race, sexuality, and gender through the film lens.
My film journey includes creating the narrative short film "In The Pocket," a project nurtured within the innovative CineFam Limitless Incubator. Another highlight is "The Onyx Butterfly" documentary, which was celebrated in various film festivals across Canada and internationally and earned the 2021 Canadian Screen Award for Best Direction in a Documentary Series.
My films have been broadcast on CBC Absolutely Canadian and Canadian Reflections. I am currently exploring directing within many mediums, one being the “Opia Experience” music video, which Prism Prize selected as one of the Top 10 Canadian Music Videos of 2021.
The stories I tell are deeply inspired by my roots and are dedicated to showcasing the intersectionality of Black women and girlhood on screen.
Beyond filmmaking, I am a novice drummer, a neglectful plant mom (whose plants are as resilient and sometimes as dehydrated as their owner), and a binge-watcher of British cooking television.
